what is Apple thinking?

Are they honestly thinking that by only supporting the IPod on Apple computers, that people are going to run out and buy an Apple computer?

They limit their customer base, and then wonder why Microsoft has so much more money

DUUUH

Microsoft has more money because Apples are good for graphic design and PC's are good for absolutely everything else. Get over it. Apples are good to start on if you're not familiar with working on a computer at all. As long as they've got some sort of support base, and you're not using a Mac, what the hell do you care?

<< u can use iPod with PC, I do, I have alpha software >>

hmm... thats not what their website says

oh well, just seems like stupid marketing to me

and I don't care, other than that I am fairly interested in picking one up, but i'm not going to fight through alpha software and no support to do so.

No, people bought macs for Mac OS X. That OS kicks ass! But they are working on a Windows port for the software and whatnot.

<< Apples are good for graphic design >>

yes. I don't know how this got started though. I'm in a commercial art class where there are only mac's avaiable to use... I can't stand it, nothing is right, mac's are worthless and the only thing they are good for are paper weights and door stops. Seriously, have you ever seen a mac rip a dvd, work with photoshop and dreamweaver, stream music with winamp, run outlook and chat on icq all that the same time? I haven't, I can do it on my pc though 🙂

on topic (sorry) I thought I read back last week on a post abou the ipod, and how there is software out for it to be compatible with a pc, even if apple didn't make that, you would think that someone else would.

<< A better question:

What is anyone who buys an apple thinking? 😕
>>

Lets get out of the 80's 😉

I dont know about those specifically, but I usually have quite a few of applications open on my Mac. 🙂

Yeah, I used to hate macs until I purchased OS X for my computer at work. I love this OS. Forget about the cutesy-schmootsiness of it. I don't really care about it, but the speed of it and the stability is amazing. I still prefer PCs simply because I can build my own PC and it has a larger software base (including GAMES!!), but I really wish that Microsoft or anybody else would follow suit with OS X.

I bought an ibook because it was a good deal, I wanted to play with Mac OS X, and I was tired of old hardware still being used. Mac OS X being a UNIX-like system really helps me out, plus I didnt have to buy an OS I would never like (Windows) just because I bought the computer.

It got started somewhere around 1985, when PC's were using dos 3.3, and apple had a GUI on there macs. Of course, you see how graphic design developed mainly on the mac. Graphic designers have been using them ever since because they became the standard.

Macs are best used for educational institutions and other workplaces where the computer is used for work-related stuff. Throwing out ICQ and Winamp, I have seen a mac with OS X (mine in fact) run photoshop, the apple mail client, word, internet explorer, File Maker Pro, and yes rip a CD on Adaptec Toast at the same time. No prob.

Now on OS9...that's another story...🙁

correction: OS X isn't unix-like, as is linux, but actually is unix.

eakers - get an ibook, they're portable and run on batteries, so you can scratch the itch any time you want

/me wonders how its possible to make computers sound dirty

dang someone beat me on a reply to eakers.

course my frame of mind at this time, I would have been put on a nice vaction from the mods

Any links showing that they got it certified as a UNIX tm?

B.S. - Apples at one time were good for graphic design, i don't believe that crap anymore. PC's are far superior now days. The 80's are over.

<< really? what separates various BSDs from unix? >>

UNIX is a trademark. Last I heard the trademark owner charges buttloads of money for an OS to become an UNIX. I know most free projects out there are not going to pay it. But this might have changed in the past few years, you never know.
