What is all this about RAM timing?

i have just ordered my first ddr ram chip to go with my new Dragon mobo.......what's this about timing on it? or CAS, do i need to worry about this or is this an overclocking thing? thanks.

There are several memory timings that can be adjusted in the BIOS. If you don't know what they are, then you probably shouldn't mess with them. The BIOS will usually default to "By SPD" which essentially polls the memory for the timings during POST. You don't need to do anything.

And, yes, those timings are usually tweaked by performance junkies. I'd search around the 'net for more info about tweaking those timings. But for the purposes of running the system, you don't need to touch anything.

Lower cas timings mean faster speed, you don't have to worry about them as they run autimatically at the proper settings default.
If you go to cas 2 T your memmory runs faster, there should be three settings, set them to the lower nimber if you want more agressive timings, you may have to up the voltage a noth or 2 to run stable though.
If not just run at the default level if not oc/ing.
