What is all the obsession with configs and sigs?

I understand that most people here, myself included, could be defined as computer enthusiasts. I just don't understand when I see so many people putting their computer's hardware and configuration in their signiture. Does this impress anyone? Do people like to see this?

Athlon 550 (650 core) @ 800 1/2 cache
Asus A7V ATX 2.01 Mobo w/ 1000.014 bios
128 Mushkin PC133 Cas2 @151mhz
etc. etc. etc.

Is it just me, or does this annoy you too?

I don't do it to brag (not much to brag about anyway!) or anything, just so I don't have to tell people my system in case I have a tech support question where system specs are important.

what obsession?

people just wanna show their system.

i mean, after spending all that time, why not... especially if you come here for the computer stuff.

I use a 1 gig chip computer at work. I noticed a few people on the signature had similar computers. I was interested in over-clocking. I asked them some questions about their systems, and they didn't have a clue. Not meaning that they didn't have a clue on how to bench mark or over clock their system, but they obviously didn't have the system they listed in their signature. They just found the fastest computer from a magazine and listed some specs to try and impress everyone.

Don't be fooled by the foolies!

I'm not obsessed with my computer because I'm embarrased due to penis size. I do play with my computer at least once or twice a day, and whenever I'm bored and there's no one watching. And sometimes I even play with my computer when reading magazines like PC World.

computers - a hands on experience!!

does the fur on your palms get in the way of typing? 😉

I can understand that someone may include all that stuff for tech support situations, but I think most of them do it for other reasons. I'm relieved that other people see what I'm talking about...
