What is aconti.exe?

I recently deleted everything that had that name in it because I didn't know what it was. (good going huh?) Anyhow, next time i rebooted i couldn't run any micorsoft office applications. It would say something like 'u're trying to install something...that is on the office cd" So i put it in and then it installed something really fast. Now my office apps work again. In my start menu I have a shotcut called Speedmanager that I don't recognize and when i click on it, the link is missing, windows searches for aconti.exe

So what is this file?

On a google search, it shows up as a porn dialer program or something.

That would be correct. Grab ad-aware or a comparable freeware product to assist in the elimination of that app.

There was a thread in this forum about a week ago... do a search for ad-aware and you'll see the others that are listed... a newer version of ad-aware will be available in roughly 1 month...

I thought ad-aware stopped updating?

anyway an alternative is SpyBot Seek & Destroy... naff name but does the job well - might want to keep an eye on what it wants to delete though.
