Ah, see this is interesting to me. Thanks for clarifying. My interpetation of "War Monger" is such that it takes actual war, at minimum. Interesting that it is not this way for everyone.

It's not that your personal interpretation "is not this way for everyone," it's that your personal interpretaton doesn't fit the definition of the damn word in the English language. :colbert:

It seems you just don't want to see, understand or admit that, Mr. "legitimately curious." 🙄

Yeah. But that was the point of the tread in the first place. It means different things to different people.

Well, ok, whatever, I guess. It's just that I was initially put off by you calling yourself "legitimately curious."

You may well be, but all too often jamokes with a definite agenda describe themselves as "legitimately curious" about a topic -- cynically promoting themselves as having an honestly open-minded, inquiring mind, a kind of naive "youth wants to know" -- when they are really anything but.

Again, this may well not be you, so, carry on!

War monger profits from war, its just money, as opposed to evil who leave a trail of fire and death for no apparent reason, Libya, Syria, etc.

SEVERAL! Omg, the man was insatiable! No wonder he went around in that quick release diaper/toga!* D:

Since it's a single word "warmonger," my first reaction when I read "war monger" is that you can't spell. Sorry, that's the way I am

When I hear those particular syllables, I think immediately of the Neoconservatives who so insistently rallied for the invasion of Iraq through 2011-2013. Wolfowitz, probably more than anyone.

a "monger" is someone who sells his wares. per extension, a war monger is someone who wants you to buy war because he sells it.

It implies that the war monger wants you to "buy war" regardless of whether you need it or not, and all that he cares about is if he sells war or not, instead of the possible side effects of war.

Also "chickenhawk" is a term that can be used for a War Monger. As another poster said it's that subset of War Monger who avoided the chance of going to fight.

like Cheney. Senator John McCain could be said to be a War Monger but not a Chickenhawk.

Although I think anyone who was in an infantry unit during war time would be much less likely to be a War Monger compared to someone who flew a Jet.
