What is a standard drink size?

No, not of alcohol, of a regular drink, say a glass of water. Isn't it 8 oz? However, at school they offer milk and tea. Milk is half-pint, and is extremely tiny and barely enough of a beverage for a full meal. The tea is one pint and is sufficient. But I just Googled it and found that 1 pint = 16 oz. So does that mean the standard drink size of 8 oz is equivalent to those TINY little half-pint milk cartons? I always thought 8 oz was a regular tall glass. 😕

Maybe it's because I'm American, but I find that 20oz is an excellent size for the drink that I have with any given meal. I used to think that around that amount would be fine, but I drink these Nantucket Nectars and they're 17.5oz; I always find that I have to consciously save up a little bit to make sure I've got some to wash it all down with.

Short version: 20oz 2 win.

I always wondered why milk came in such small servings. I thought it was maybe people couldn't drink as much of it (different levels of lactose tolerance?)as other non-dairy drinks.

It varies with the drink and the person. Saying there is a standard drink size other than the Nutrition suggestion size is like saying that everyone needs the same amount of medicine when they are ill or that everyone's temperature will always be 98.6.

Drink whatever quenches your thirst but know that what you drink may alter the amount needed.

I would say I'm a 20 oz guy, then. But it seems like practically everyone around me is perfectly satisfied with those half pint milks with lunch. I just don't get it.
