well, i guess that's the best example that i can think off for those who is new to photography.

I agree. And like Windows, a normal camera can do everything that the average person would want, and 90% of what an advanced person would want without being needlessly complex.

he has like 30 rolls of undeveloped film and hasnt touched the f5 in ayear

wonder if the f5 lenses will fit on the digital SLRs that are out now...

Oh yeah. I used an N90 with an assortment of lenses when I was an amatuer. I shoot a D1 (digital) at work now and all of my old lenses fit-with the caveat that the focal length of the lens is magnified 1.5X.

I've got a G2, and it's definitely not easy to change aperture and shutter speed. In fact theres really not a good product on the market right now for a compact high-end digital camera with easy to use manual controls and the features that the G2 has.

that's a pretty good analogy.

What about the percent of us who develop and make their own prints. Who are they?

I was about to flame you..... but after reading the whole thread I agree, your friend is a dumbass. However, who's to say he won't really take a liking to photography? Maybe he has some interest he's never expressed to you before? Ionno, my first camera was a Canon EOS but now I use my S200 a lot more since I usually don't have a need for other one. Heck, if I need a film camera I might even reach for my APS Elph first since its so tiny and takes great pictures.

SLR means that the image you view through the viewfinder uses the same lens that the camera will be shooting the image with. thats where single lens comes from. reflex comes from the mirror that angles the image up into the viewfinder. it also blocks the film. when you push on the shutter button the shutter closes, the mirror flips up, the shutter opens to the designated fstop for the designated amount of time, then closes, the mirror flips back down, and the shutter opens back up.

Accurate, concise . . . bump for quality.

The versatility of a digital camera is tempting, but as already mentioned above, you must pay big bucks to have quality too. Now that film scanners are more affordable (Minolta has the new Scan Dual III for only $260, including dust removal technology similar to Digital ICE), sticking to a film camera makes more sense for most people. Unless you have an application where the convenience of a digital is unmatched (e.g. your daily e-bay auctions), film has the best quality/cost ratio.

I personally think the SLR cameras are much better than the digital cameras right now.. ( photography wise )

You have assorted number or Lens and accessories that acompany it.

It's more of a professionals camera.. I'm not to sure on that model.. but I wouldn't mind switching over to SLR cameras from my Digital ..

i'll take one of these, thanks.
