Ok, so i recently built a new system and am now trying to get it up to 4ghz. Right now at 4ghz its temp (on prime) full load jumps around from high 70s to low 90s... Is this bad? It get that high after about a minute of prime.

It is currently on a H70 (cooler)
Here are the bios settings:

CPU Level up: Crazy-3.08G
Ai OC tuner [CPU level up]
CPU Ratio Settings: [28.0]
Turbo mode 1- core Ratio [+1] offset (all are set to +1)
Turbo mode [+1]
Turbo mode [+1]
Turbo mode [+1]

DDRAM Frequency 1120MHz

CPU voltage Mode
Fixed Voltage 1.4

IMC Voltage 1.3

DRAM voltage [auto]

(all the rest set to auto)

The only other setting i have changed it [HT] (Hyper Threading)

Is there something i am doing wrong?

Thanks

I am not using stock.. One is a case fan(df-85), and the other is Scythe SY1225SL12M 120mm

The stock fans where louder but i think they pushed more air. I now have it where the temp does not jump over 83c under full load.

If you can drop the voltage abit and disable HT that will help with temps. If not then you need high CFM fans.

HT is already disabled.

Not it never gets above 87c (only core #4 gets that high) And this is under full load in prime. Is this safe? It idles around 36-40c

Whats the point in buying the processor with HT if your just going to disable it?

have you tried the ASUS TurboV EVO software?

I set bios to crazy 3.54 GHz and ran the evo software. It bumped me up to 4.1183 GHz 152.29x27. Then going into bios I was able to select DDRAM Frequency to 1680MHz.

I decided to run at 140.3x27 = 3788.2MHz @ 1.352V and 1680MHz. Temps are around 35C-48C, temps in games hit 70C-75C. At one point I topped out at 80C but that is rare. And that is will a SLI of gtx 460 oc'ed to 850MHz

Ok, But what cooler are you using also?

hahaha, that makes all the difference. I'm using the noctua nh-d14, fans are set on the ultra low noise setting. Using the antec 300 case, fans on low.
When I play games I put the case fans on high and my video card fans on 100%

Yeah... Some googling and it seems the nh-d14 out performs the h70.. but oh well

One thing for everyone that post their owns numbers, you need to provide the room temp that is one of the most important factors.

If you live in northern canada and the next guy is in florida you cannot compare those numbers with the same parts.

My room temp is 76F right now.

I can run (stable) at 3593.28mhz with HT on. On those settings it does not get above 80c. I put the factory fans back on. Should i use ac5 alumina thermal compound? I have some, right now it is just using stock thermal compound.

EDIT: and that was the temp after 4 passes of Prime95

Ok, i think i found the "sweet spot" where the temps stay at 75c on Prime (All on) with HT enabled. The Core Clock is at 3.802 Ghz (witch is a pretty good jump for a newbie dont you think?

To get to 4ghz it just takes to big of a jump in voltage jump that causes the temps to go 90+ with-ought HT enabled to i do not think it is worth the extra 200mhz while dropping HT for anything but bragging rights :D . So anyway i am Happy :)

congrats!

your inspiring me to try different settings. got 1.3V with 141.5x27 = 3.820GHz and its running a few degrees cooler. i'm going to play around with it and see what else i can get!

That is what i have my voltage set to as well. To get to 4 ghz i had to bump it all the way up to 1.36 before it was stable (no HT). And (off the top of my head) i believe i have the multi at 22, crazy 3.54, and i also set the BLK to 65.. I think that is what it is at right now. And it runs good ;)
