What amount of time is this. Why not just say a minute. Is a moment greater than a minute or less? I was put on hold for a "moment". Seemed a lot longer than a minute. It seems like a cop out. Do you use the word "moment" when referring to some measure of time? Just seems awkward to me.

I don't use "moment" as a measure of time, but as a experience....

As in, "When our eyes met, we shared a moment...."

I personally never use "moment" as a measure of time, like uberneumen said, its more of an "experience"
however when somebody else uses it as a time interval, i would expect it to be quick, as in less than a minute.

A moment is the span of time just as your lips meet the other person's during your first kiss. ;)

I guess it's easier to say, "let me put you on hold for a moment" than "let me put you on hold for 2.6 minutes".

It seems to me that, technically speaking, a moment would be an infinitely short span of time. In daily life, though, it's more like a minute or two.

A moment is a small amount of time that can range from a few seconds to several minutes. :)
