What is a Humidifier For?

Today, I bought a humidifier since I always wanted to try it out.

It's on.. and I set it to 65% humidity when my room was 50%. So.. what is it suppose to do?

I see no difference in anything.

What is a humidifier for?

It's for adding water moisture to the air.

People generally use it in the winter when the air is drier. I have one in my bedroom, as it's nice to wake up without a scratchy throat in the morning because of dry air.

LMAO! What the hell did you think it was gonna do? Make rainbow colors in your room? It's not an Ecstacy Accessory, buddy......it HUMIDIFIES. It's sole function is to raise the moisture content in the air you breathe. Hopefully, this doesn't come as a letdown of some kind to you.

Guys, I was at Target and I bought this EnemaMaster 5000 machine thing. The instructions say fill with water and isert probe. Insert it WHERE? I've looked all over the house trying to find a matching recepticle to no avail!

Well Kenji, bend over and meet the EnemaMaster 5000!

Calm down man, it is a humidifier, I'm sure a third grade can figure out that it humidifies air. I wanted to know what are the advantages to having humidity in the air. Now I know, it prevents from bacteria to grow, no more dry throats in the morning, no itchy skin from dryness.. thanks guys..

LOL! No, he meant keep the humidifier clean (change the water often) cause bacteria can grow in it if you leave it be for too long. 😀

In a nutshell it raises the relative humidity in a room.

Benefits of higher humidity in the winter months are:

Keeps your skin moisture higher, less dry skin and chapped lips.

Keeps your mucous membranes moist, thus they are able to function better at keeping bacteria from entering your body through your nose.

Air that is more moist also feels warmer to the human body, a higher relative humidity in the air in your home will lower your heating bills since the air feels warmer to your body with its higher moisture content.

EDIT

That being said, there are also downsides to it.

You can get the relative humidity in the room so high that condensation will form on your walls and windows. This is a BAD thing, in addition to the added moisture rotting your walls and house, the warm moist surface acts as a swing club atmosphere for mold spores. Think of your whole house having black crap in the corners just like your shower. :disgust:

Well, next time ask "What are the benefits of using a humidifier?" You'll get much clearer responses that way. 😛

I used to get the croop (spelling...not sure and really don't care) Anyway, when I would get it I'd use a humidifier when I'd sleep and it would go away.

That is another good use for a humidifier 😀

Turn it on when you build the rigs. Less ESD risk = good for electronics

Isn't humidity suppose to help with colds or something along those lines? Maybe I have that backwards..

You can always put some vicks vaporub on the humdifiers that have hot steam. That'll clear ya up when you have a cold and I love the smell.

To be put into a room with a dehumidifier and have them battle it out!!!:Q

What I wonder is what happens when you turn on the fan also. I suppose the house gets its own microclimate, complete with thunderstorms, hurricanes...
