What is a healthy max cpu temp?

51C is acceptable, lower is always better but yeah 51 under full load won't cause any serious problems, when you pass 60C then it's a danger-zone.

It's running stably without any errors at 75? Your cpu seems to like you since anytime I've gotten near that temp the comp freezes up on loading my OS o_o but still you can't argue with the fact that lower temps are always better, and Catch that's a perfectly stable temperature, you could even push the cpu further if you wanted, but if the 2.4 is enough for you then you're golden.

If only at 2.4 should be in low 30s (idle) mid 50s at load - (at default vcore). You may want to set your cpu vcore manually as opposed to Auto to whatever the spec is 1.25-1.30

Usually you don't want to see 60 on a cpu ever, though under load low 60s isn't too horrible. Idle, under 40 is nice, but under 50 is still acceptable.

This is just what I hear, can't say I have experience frying chips so I don't know true limits.

Core2 chips can go past 60C without any problems. M0/G0 steppings can be run as high as 75C as Markfw is doing.

My CPU usually stays under 50C, but I'm not grilling mine the way Mark is.

Is that bad? :p

If it's error free and below the max case temp no.

i'd figure 65-70 would probably be acceptable for most intel cpus. assuming hte reading was correct.

72C is the max case temp, not core temp. Since core temp is 15C higher than case temp, so 87C would be the highest core temp. I'm bumping up against that temp slightly. So far so good though.

Edit: measured with CoreTemp 0.96.

Wow 84C is very hot. Try a different tool for reading the temp like Intel TAT.
I don't think its a good idea to run your chip at 84. Max for that should be 75c.

My E6750 on the stock HSF is low 30s idle, and 58-59 under full load.

When I swap this chip out with a .45nm quad this spring, I'm going to do a proper thermal paste and aftermarket HSF.

That's actually 69C; Author of CT has said he thinks this is wrong and will be correcting this in 0.96.

Otherwise, I'm hitting 89C at times.

Not trying to steal this thread or anything, but how accurate are the numbers in Everest Ultimate compared to other programs...including the bios?

Just as an addendum to the other thread that recently got bumped about CPU temps.....

Go to intel's website. They tell you the appropriate max temp that your CPU should be exposed to, as well as the max ambient temperature.

You may be surprised at how high the allowable temperature is.

People would have you believe that they know better than Intel what is safe and what is not.
