I recently talked with a local company that is starting up and is looking for a web designer for a college intern position. I have it from several sources that I have the job if I want it, so now I'm wondering about what wage I should specify? One of my sources also tells me that they are applying for a grant from the state to pay me, so that shouldn't be TOO MUCH of a problem.

What should I ask for? Keep in mind this is an intern position and I will only be working 20-25hours a week (I'm a full time college student)

btw: I also know that in their words "..his work was a perfect ten compared to the other applicants 5s and 6s..". Also, this could VERY easily lead to a full time position on their pay role.

Thanks
Jugs

EDIT: Ohhh yah I forgot to say that this company focuses on Web Design and other online systems.

interm position?

Anyway I'd say you probably don't have any or very few official qualifications, so like around here that might pay about $8-9 an hour, but living is cheap here too so....... See what the market is paying around there and dont ask for too much now and screw yourself out of that full time spot!

Well I ran my own web design company for 3 years, but stopped so I could concentrate on my school work. I have also taken a few advanced web design, Photoshop, and internet publishing college classes for "paper" credit.

You ought to be able to ask for a little more than average because of your ability to spell "web" properly 60% of the time. :)

HAhahahaaha, I never even noticed! That's I what I get for trying to post a thread at 3am.

Actually I just got done typing up a bunch of invites and stuff for my bros wedding, so I have an excuse! ;)

Thanks for pointing it out!

I'm technically an intern at the company I work for. At least that's what my hiring letter says. "IT Intern." That means I get to do the work that the full time guys don't want to do, like troubleshooting windows and misc. work in the server room. I asked for $12-15/hour when I was hired, and got the upper range of my request... >=15 would give you a good idea. This is in downtown Atlanta, so the wage may be slightly different than what you'd get where you live.

But since you're skilled and know what you're doing in a cut throat field, I'd say push for at least 15/hour. The money you make the company will more than make up for how much they are paying you...
