Good Lord, Bastula! Lots of great info!!
The more I think about this, the more I want one.
Bastula, how did you finally decide on getting the receiver from Deluo? I'm having a hell of a time digging up good USB GPS reviews. The best looking setup I've seen so far is the
Delorme with the GPS receiver included in the box. $130 seems like a reasonable price, and I can just pick one of these bad boys up from my local Best Buy store. Also, is the map software very computationally intensive? I've got a pretty wussy 333Mhz laptop. What other neat stuff does your GPS setup do? I was thinking it would be nice if it could keep track of my speed, direction and time so that I can try to optimize my frequent trips between Syracuse and Rochester.
An interesting thing that I read on the Delorme box was that it's accurate to within a few meters, and under some circumstances can be like 4 or 5 times more accurate. I thought that GPS's that were that accurate were kind of reserved for the military.
