What is a good Hard Drive to get?

I'm looking to upgrade my Hard Drive in my PC. Currently I have a IBM 45GB ata/100. I'm wanting to get something around 100GB. I'm kind of favoriting the Western Digital 120GB Special Edition. I've found it for $205 + shipping. Let me know what you think.

That special edition drive is very nice 😀 but also take a look at the L series drives from Maxtor. Just my 2cents. Take care

I really like my seagate baracuda IV, because it is so quiet.

My mom has a L series in her computer, and I'd take the seagate. I can't tell a difference in speed and the total silence of the seagate is great.

take a look at the Maxtor D740x range.
Got 2 of these babies and no problems. quick aswell.

They are ATA133 compatible if need be and cheap to buy.

curious..what was the dislike (s)?

Since you are looking to get 100gb drive, then you are down to these choices:

WD 1200BB 120gb - Best bang for the buck, IMO.
WD 1200JB 120gb - Can't find a better IDE drive when it comes to performance.
IBM 120GXP 120gb - Performs close to the 1200JB, but IBM now has a bad rep, so you make the call.

If you can go down to a 80gb drive, then:

Seagate Barracuda IV 80gb - Quietest drive around.
Maxtor D740X 80gb - Performs very well, ATA133.

Ok, I'm going to get the WD 120GB Special Edition drive. Now what I need to know is What is the best cable to get, or mainly who from?

WD120JB all the way, I jumped in on the Dell deal some ways back. Love it.

Also WD announced the 80JB along with the 100JB and 120JB. But then you got the Dell deal going on, can't beat it.
