What is a GOOD FREE ANTI-VIRUS

I just finished updating everything and installing all the things i need on my newly built system.

I need a good antivirus until i can get my hands on a norton.

Any recommendations on free virus protection?

Right now, i'm using AntiVir. It seems to be working very well. 🙂

Avast! It works pretty good for me. AVG is good, too. But I understand that it has incompatibility issues with ZoneAlarm if you by chance use that. Just what I've heard. And stay away from Norton. Norton not only sucks, but you gotta pay for something that sucks. Just what I've heard.

another vote for Antivir... I hate AVG and pretty much every other AV app which is 'in your face', always messing things up and almost impossible to shut down for gaming, benchmarking etc.

Antivir is beautifully quiet, you must remember to update it regularly though (no auto-updating).

for some reason i tried the avast just now, it keeps getting errors as soon as i run the installer.

NAV only lasts a year, then you have to buy the same product again...over and over and over again. And to top it all off, I have only ever needed to stop 2 or 3 viruses over the last of 5 years. I love spending cash on things year after year that are used only marginally 😉

Heh, why do you think the the insurance sales industry does so good? I wanna sell insurance. Especially since some of it is required by law, lol.

i was only asking for a free one until i can go back to school and get my cracked norton.
edit: the installer on the avast site doesnt work, but off of download.com it does, but you have to update avast again.
