what is a good core temp for a 6800GT?

Stumps

I have an ASUS V9999GT 128mb 6800GT, it's completly stock, no overclocking and has the tiny standard HSF unit.

I get 55-58c at idle and 65ish at full load on a 30c+ day.

My case is an Antec Sonata and I have a pair of 120mm fans inside, one exhaust and one setup right in front of the Video card just behind the harddisks.

I noticed that the HSF unit is pretty noisy and spins at around 3500rpm. so I decided to use the Asus Smart doctor software and setup the auto fan control which now runs the HSF at a much quieter 2400-2800rpm at idle.

Are these good temps? or should I just run the HSF flatout?

That is pretty normal for ambient temps of 30c. Your loard temps are great actually. If you dont like the noise of the stock hsf, then go grab a NV5 silencer which will both cool your card while making it totally silent.

I have a 6600 GT myself, and didn't notice any serious noise. It's a Leadtek, with only 128 MBs of RAM on it. I was trying to find where in NVtweak the setting(s) was(were) for temps on screen and in a text log file that I recalled in Coolbits (I thought). Unless it was Riva Tuner that I'm thinking of. I lost confidence in nVidia due to the fx fiasco, and lost track of my utilities along the way from then to now, while going seriously into pro-ATI territory.

Now, I play some NWN2 and Oblivion here in this room on a PC with that GPU occasionally, and worry about how hot that core might be getting (my Sapphire X800 XT-PE on the game box in my bedroom needed an aftermarket fan to stay cool enough in Oblivion to suit me, since it wanted to run at 90 C and even above that when the screen action was at all busy).

How are you getting the GPU temps on screen (if you are) with your 6600 GT?

I have a 6800GT too. I get 59C idle and around 70-75C load. That's with a Zalman VF700 on low voltage.
