That's what I would do unless I needed Amazon VOD, then I would get a Roku.

Roku:

1. You can stream via apps/channels - Netflix, Amazon, etc.
2. You can stream locally via Plex (Roku app + Server app on your computer)

I've switched out to the Roku 3. There's no Youtube, and Netflix isn't updating their app until next year (for profiles & kid's section), but those are pretty much my only complaints.

For our main TV, we have an Xbox and a PS3.

For the bedroom TV, we have an Roku, and I have PlayOn on my PC.

Seems Roku 3 and Chromecast <-- Once they get rollin on app support is a killer combo.

I recommend chromecast it's 35$ and runs lots of apps and connects right over wifi no smart tv needed.

i've used the gamut from modded xbox (original) to full blown touch screen htpc jukebox.

I even bought a second htpc for the bedroom but have switched to chromecast and plex.

Now that more apps are supported, it's working out really well for us, not to mention it's a whole lot cheaper than a full blown htpc.

I've switched out to the Roku 3. There's no Youtube, and Netflix isn't updating their app until next year (for profiles & kid's section), but those are pretty much my only complaints.

And now these objections have been removed since the Netflix app was updated early (sometime in late November) and there is now a youtube app (although you could have accessed youtube earlier through plex). I love my Roku 3.

few years ago I've bought Argosy HV335T Mobile Video HDD Media Player that I'm very happy with - plays any media file.

I'm thinking to get Roku 3 - I could watch some international channels with $7 per month charge - about 100 channels.
