What is a good 17 inch monitor for under $250

My brothers old 15 inch CTX monitor is going out and he needs to replace it with something. And he wants a good 17 inch one for under $250 (U.S.)
what do you think are the best in this range?
He has been looking at the Viewsonic E773, what do you think of this one?
Oh yeah it must run at 85hz or more @ 1024 x 768 😉
 
I got a KDS VS-195e 19" 1600x1200 and it is awesome. I had a 15" Sony Trinitron and my new KDS has just as good picture quality and it's 19". You can pick one up for around $290 including shipping.
 
All the Samsung 17" monitors look pretty good. At least two of them can be had for under $250. I think the 753DF (or something like that) has a $30 rebate, which brings it to only $200. Been seriously thinking about picking one up.
 
My Samsung 753DF is one helluva lot better monitor than my budget KDS. Super flat, fine grained, high-res, high refresh, very crisp picture. Not perfect, there is a little bit of a dark spot up in one corner, but you'll have to kill me to take it....
 
I love the ViewSonic A75F we got for our family computer. I have heard good things about Samsung monitors as well though.

Those two, I would personally opt for the 755DF, because you can do higher res with it. Ask them if they have the SyncMaster 700NF, I believe they do, with $30 rebate you can get it under $250, its a great monitor, the 753/755DF are also good.
 
I agree with LXi... either get the KDS AV-7TF or the Samsung 700NF...
both are very nice aperture grill monitors...

I picked up the KDS yesterday... and I must say... I'M IMPRESSED!

 
Get Samsung 753DF. I have it and I love it, does 1024x768 at 85Hz beautifully. And you can get it for $134!!! shipped from Staples.com after $30 rebate. I don't think you can beat that price. $177 + $27 shipping that you can find here, but call up Staples and tell them that you can get it for that price at that site, pricematch, use $40 off $200 coupon, free shipping and $30 rebate make it $134 delivered.
