What is a firewall made of?

And i don't mean an electronic one.....

I mean the ones which are in apartment buildings...

it's a wall but it's called a firewall for some reason. Curious to know what it is made of

Like a router you mean? It's still kinda the same thing I think; there's software in the hardware.

fire resistant drywall (3 layers or so)

I would say some kind of masonry material (cinder blocks), etc. Or even what Troytime said, fire resistant drywall.

masonry would be best - but that'd be hella expensive

i live in a new townhouse - i snuck in when it was being built (to run cat6 and speaker wire)

the units were separated with 3 layers of green drywall, as well as the typical insulation and interior drywall.

reason why I'm asking about the firewall is because I'm planning on having a wireless network at my place and the signal needs to either go through it or around it.

 

sharing with the neighbor? (or borrowing?)

the cat5 cabling that i have is just making my place look messy so planning on switching to wireless

Funny how talk of drywall actually relates to networking in some weird way, connected by the word "firewall"

 

if its just for your own place you shouldn't have any issue with your wireless networking and fire resistant wall

the firewall will only separate your pad from your neighbors
