What is a fajita?

I made what I've always considered fajitas for dinner tonight, grilled chicken (I do it with any type of meat tho, tonight I felt like chicken) peppers and onions. Then place it all in a tortilla and enjoy

But how is this different from a burrito, which is meat and other things in a tortilla. I've even seen fajita burritos on menus at Mexican restaurants, so what makes a fajita a fajita? Is it the size of the tortilla? But then whats the difference between fajitas and soft tacos?

It was really tasty but I'm confused...

Yep, the onions and peppers are the key ingredients to turning a burrito into a fajita. And the fajita "guts" are usually brought out on a sizzling skillet and served up tableside.

But then wtf is a fajita burrito? Wouldn't it just be a fajita?

this is the key

Yup. For example you can go to chipotle and get a buritto fajita style, which is peppers and onions instead of beans.

Doesn't a burrito have to have rice too?

Self-correct, I know you can get a bean and cheese burrito.

It's an upgrade to a burrito. It comes out on a plate already wrapped up with the meat, peppers, and onions in it. A "fajita" will typically be brought out on a platter with the ingredients sizzling in a pan with the tortillas served on the side.

This makes sense, I've always gotten fajitas served like this at restaurants.

It seems like fajitas, soft tacos and burritos are all basically the same food with minor differences though. Damn Mexican food, why can't you be as simple as Chinese food.

but it's damn good

We don't know what it is. It could be wrapped up turd smothered in hot sauce and sour cream and then call it a shitija and would love it for 1.99. I think they're laughing at us, listen to them!

Fajitas are pretty close to "real" Mexican. In more Mexican (as opposed to Tex Mex) restaurants they're often called arracheras, but really, it's pretty much the same thing. You probably won't find a burrito though.

Yea a fajita isn't in a burrito. They make them into burritos but fajitas are usually just plates.

Fajita

It's amazing to me how sometimes people will take the effort to type out a question and post it here rather than typing a single word into a search engine or Wiki.

The wiki you posted said

grilled meat served on a flour or corn tortilla

Which could be the same as a burrito or a soft taco

It's Spanish for "big rip off!" I can order a $7 burrito that is loaded with steak and cheese. Or I can order a $7 Fajita platter that's loaded with veggies and about 1/4th the meat the Burrito has. They bring it to you on a sizzling platter to try and distract you from noticing you're getting mostly veggies and hardly any meat. The sizzling doesn't work on me though. It's highway robbery.
