DUNS numbers are standardized business ID numbers used by the federal government to identify folks doing business with the feds. See link below.

Dun & Bradstreet are an information and credit reporting agency for businesses. Basically, if you are buying something on credit or setting terms (like 30 days after receiving before you pay), then they want to run your Company's D&N number to see your credit history and repayment history. Very common when you do a PO and are asking for terms or something on credit.

If you're not a business and order from dell's small business division, what do u say when you get a call from Dunn & Bradstreet. I assume that they will not follow up on the discrepancy, am i right?

Commercial lenders use D&B's as well.
