what is a decently fast but extremely cheap cpu/mb combo?

just put together an intel e7200/p43 system and the cpu/mb combo was about $210.

was thinking to put together a cheaper rig together for my parents, and need suggestions on a cpu/mb combo for under $100 if possible.

needs:
DDR2
pci-e 2.0
onboard sound
not overclocking
retail preferred for warranty and bundled HSF
SATA and IDE (carrying over old DVD/CD-RW drive)

i don't know much outside of the system i built, so please school me.
correct me if i'm wrong but AMD is better on the low end, right (compared to celerons)?

really just looking for cpu/mb recommendations, not an entire system.

$101 (at mwave)

$130 and you're done. You could probably find a cheaper mobo/cpu combo, on whatever website. You'd almost spend half, and lose roughly 25% performance. In fact, you'd gain lots because the onboard video on 780g motherboards is pretty damn good.

i'd like to put in a dedicated graphics card in there when i go over sometimes to play games 😛
any recommendations on cheaper mb's w/out onboard video?

i do like the brisbane cpu recommendations

All the cheaper motherboards seem to have onboard video. You still have the PCI slot so nothing will stop you from putting in your own GPU.

yeah, i looked at the nforce 6100 mb's and they have onboard.
was looking to see if there were cheaper ones without onboard that might knock off 10 or 20 bucks.
