$100-200 handun? good luck in not getting a PoS. You might be able to get a used one in that range, but it might be difficult.

bersa thunder .380s and kel-tec's .380 and 9mm are around $250 or so last time I checked. lots of people love the bersas and i've heard a lot of mixed reviews on the kel-tecs.
i wouldn't want to use either a range gun, shooting for fun, because they are small and made for concealed carry. I own a bersa.

Hrmmm, maybe I should just spend 300-400 and get something OK? I do not even know what they cost!

could probably get a $200 Glock from the guy on the corner with the trenchcoat at night

I know nothing of guns, I just know that one holds 20? My buddy will teach me up on everything.

Good, we need more people to own guns because they think the name "sounds cool".[/i]

I dont want one just because it 'sounds cool', I feel everyone should shoot one, once in their life...know how to handle a gun.

Learn to shoot first. Try a range that has pistol rental, or shoot your friend's guns. Just don't run out and purchase one first. Try a few out and find one that you are comfortable with.

Depending on where you live, there may be a section in the classifieds for the sale of firearms. Some gun shops have bulletin boards where people post guns for sale. Where I live they have guns for sale on the bulletin board at the grocery store, and there are radio call-in shows where people sell and trade guns and other stuff.

If you get a Sig, just make sure get one that says "Made in Germany". The newer ones are "Frame made in Germany" and then finished in the US and for the most part are junk compared to the older Sigs. Their new CEO cut corners and quality while keeping the price the same to boost profits.

Well, not knowing the whole company, with metal prices going through the roof and power also goign the same route. They may be doing this so they don;t have the raise prices. So you see them trying to save money while keeping the same price while it could be they do this so they don;t have th raise the price?

When you are a top tier handgun manufacturer, you shouldn't do anything to hurt your image, putting out guns with sub-par quality and MIM made parts is bad for business. They used to put out some of the nicest production pistols by a large maker in the world. Now they are just over-priced when compared to other makers with similar products.

Get a police trade-in. One of the gun stores I go to always has a few. They've been gone over at the factory and had several internal parts replaced. The only downside is they have some holster wear.

sold my Bersa .380 and got a Kahr Mk9 so that both of my handguns use the same ammo...other gun is a Beretta 92FS...

I bought my Hi-Point 9mm for $125. It is a heavy gun, and is not the most attractive gun, but it shoots well and is fun for targets and such. If you want something to carry around, check out Kel Tec. They are cheap and decent.

Maybe you should start with a basic .22 target pistol. Cheap ammo and low recoil means you can shoot all day.

The P225 uses an 8-round magazine (not much capacity compared to most semi-autos) and since it's used it might be a bit worn. I've also heard the trigger pull is really bad, as in way too heavy for the first shot. But it is pretty cheap, without being a poorly-built gun. SIGs are generally very good.

If you get it, make sure you get extra mags. They're hard to find for that gun.

Great deal, my brother just picked up one of those, that could probably be $300ish after the transfer and all that.

Definitely get a 9mm so you can shoot as cheap as possible

the german sig p6 (p225 in the u.s.a.) is definitely worth its weight in gold... i.e. gunbroker.com you can find them going for well over 350-400. I bought mine a month ago for 280 from the above noted j&g sales, also the identical american version p225 goes for roughly 650 and up used. I would highly recommend searching both models on gunbroker. my particular gun was manuf. in 1981 and shoots 3 inch groups from 25 yards free hand, i know it will easily do much better from a bench (and remember this is a 27 year old gun that has had a few rounds through it). the sig sauer gun is a solid well made gun. look at the sig sauer website and you will see their modern version of this gun retailing at roughly 900. not to mention that it is all metal in construction and you won't have to worry about any of those plastic components wearing out. also any and all parts are still available for the p6/p225 including every little spring and pin. my brother is going up later this week to pick up one for himself and as of 8/25 in the afternoon they have 120 left (started with 500 July 25th). I would definitely recommend this gun to anyone. it is one solid piece of machinery.

p.s. the initial double action pull is a bit strong but nothing that can't be managed. after that the single action is smooth and short (you can balance a penny flat on the front sight and dry fire the gun single action and the penny won't move-pretty damn good). a couple of ways to avoid the first double action pull is...with one chambered just pull the hammer back first and your ready to shoot single action all the way, or with the chamber empty just cycle the slide and your ready to go. Hope the info helps.

I bought a used Ruger KP95DC right in the middle of your price range (~$250). It is excellent.
