What is a Cable TV Decoder?

I have been seeing cable tv decoders for some time now.

What are those? Do they allow you to watch the channels that would be available at an extra price?

Yes, that is what they are for. But, now that digital cable is becomming more widespread, these are quickly becomming obsolete.

Wow. So they are just like that "box" the cable guy brings you when you pay to get more channels?

Sweet.

Do i get all the channels, or just a few?

Theoretically you can get any channel available on analog cable.

But I should stop talking. Mods don't appreciate this subject.

the cable company in malta doesn't have anything against the use of cable tv decoders in the user agreement.

If they use digital cable then it is nothing more than an expensive paperweight

Yes, you can use your own equipment but you can't get free programming.

I am pretty sure it is not digital.

Cant get free programming? Does that mean you cant get free programs?

Then, doesn't that automatically mean that you cant use the decoder? Or do you have to inform them?

They don't condone the illegal use of a descrambler. You can own one and use it but you're suppose to pay the for the programming.

cable company's are required to broadcast an analog signal as well as digital, atleast where i live they have 2

But they've stopped broadcasting premium programming in analog. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a descrambler.
