What is a better laptop?

I am looking for a laptop that is under 1199$?

You can get a Winbook JL from winbook.com for that price with a 700mhz processor, 10 gig hard drive and a 12.1 TFT display. Unfortunately it ships with Windows Me and only 64 megs of ram. It still is a good price though. If you can afford to spend a little more I would check the refurbished area at Dell.com. It will probably cost you a little more, but it would be worth it.

Could wait until the palomonos come out and then thr price competition to heat up. Right now you'll be looking at about a 700mhz from Dell

dunno about the price tags, but i have a laptop made by windrover and it's a nice piece of work.

cpu's pretty dated by now, but the fact that it came with 2 ps/2 ports, 2 usb, s-video out and a firewire in addition to the standard vga, parallel and serial ports was a VERY nice touch. not to mention the 15" active matrix screen, DVD drive and 12 gig hard drive.
