What inputs are needed on a DVD player to watch cable TV

I'm a video noob. Can only DVD/VHS combos play cable TV?

I have 2 DVD players. The DVD/VHS combo has as connector for my cable TV (from the wall), but the DVD-only doesn't. It has coaxial and optical, but both are output. My projector is Optoma H27

I'm looking to buy a DVD only player - do those support CATV? If it does, what is the input called, or how fo I connect it?

I had this big lengthy post typed out explaining how to connect the cable to your dvd/vhs combo and set it up, and it turns out I completely misread your post.

DVD-only players cannot accept any type of inputs, all of the connectors on a DVD-only player are outputs. DVD recorders, however, can, they should work just like a regular VCR.

Yeah, you need a TV tuner, be it in the form of a cable box or something that is designed to record TV such as a VCR or DVD recorder.
