Just wanted some feedback from you all.

What do you think are the worst computer intrusions of all time? If you have any documentation, please feel free to link. :)

Thanks.

I'm actually looking for more historical things -- but nimda is a good one. I remember that. :)

Actually, that annoying warning that popped up all the time in Vista. I forgot what triggered it but it was fairly routine, a confirmation pop up. HATED IT.. So much so that i uninstalled vista.

In the late 80s, the Friday the 13th virus caused LOTS of trouble for lots of people.
In 1996 I remember the computer lab in my high school was infected with the Stoned Spirit Virus. I got my home PC infected at the time due to doing my homework for class.
I was able to fix my home system with F-prot :) But I don't remember what they did at school...

Have there been any real life hacks like Die Hard 4 Fire Sales of note? ;)

Disabling it in the security center would have been too difficult?

I think the "Loveletter" virus in 2000 was the most destructive recent one.

SQL slammer took down our WAN. We patched our servers but all the developers with MSDE on their desktop/dev machine nailed us.

Was there much to go on with the Pentagon hack? I read about it but some articles that alluded to it are now removed.

There was a time when phreakers pretty much owned the phone system - they were far ahead of the establishment, much more so than in modern times. Other than that? The morris worm is the classic example.

When you can use a plastic toy whistle from a box of cereal to make free long distance phone calls, and you're ahead of the establishment... that's saying something. :)
