Ok, i just installed the BF 1942 ver1.3 Patch on my Computer. Before running the game i decided to reboot. While i was rebooting checkdisk needed to scan the hd real fast i didn't think it was that big of a deal. On the 1st part of the scan it found over 60+ corrupt windows and misc. files.

My jaw dropped when they were unable to be repaired and were deleted. Out of the 60+ corrupt filed only 10 or less were able to be repaired.

When the computer restartded itself i get an error saying "Windows cannot correctly identify the product serial number of this machine error code I forget " Then it immediatly logs off my computer and shuts down.

When i used a MS-Dos startup disk i found the the "WINDOWS" folder was simply GONE :Q

I know how to fix the problem, only one way... I'm going to hook up my hard drives in my dads pc and salvage what data i can and then reinstall windows.

I wanna know what could have possibley went wrong so i can prevent it from happening again.

Here's what my system has if it matters

Could just be that your hard drive is dieing. I would run some diagnostics and get that thing replaced if you find anything.

Are you overclocking? The high bus speed could cause hard drive corruption.

Yes, i was overclocking. It wasn't anyhting major just 147fsb - Thats under 38Mhz PCI which in my opinion is the danger zone

I thought when you had corrupt files with overvlocking it would be a few hwile you were running windows or rebooted, not 60 @ once

Hope my hard drive isn't dieing, what kind of diagnostic program do you recomend i use?

Yes, i had Norton 2002 with the most current updates on my computer. It could have been a wormy but i doubt it since i'm behind a network firewall for my littly small net of computers

Hope it doesn't do it again i'm almost done getting the data off the hardrives
