Some of the other spiders posted in this thread really deliver. That clock spider is pretty incredible, I probably would kill myself on the spot if that happened in my house.

But this takes the cake

ugh. people need to stop talking abut the camel spider.

first, soldiers and Marines like to exaggerate stories of those things, because they just freak people out, or intrigue them. This happens with everything.

camel spiders, first, aren't even spiders.
proper name is Wind Scorpion.

in that picture, there are two of them. Well, bottom one I can confirm is a wind scorpion, the top that is at the top of the picture, looks a little different but probably a wind scorpion as well, or a similar species.
they are about the size of your closed fist. they can run (i think like 10mph?) but not often. they aren't venomous, but would probably hurt like it bitch if it bit you in self defense, their claws are big. The stories of people having feet destroyed due to a bite MIGHT be true, if a little exaggerated, if only for the reason that a bite from their claws would not be a clean cut and the resulting wound could get infected through natural means, not due to the scorpion itself.

they aren't these dinner-plate sized spiders that can destroy a camel's insides, liquefy limbs and run as fast as a vehicle... unless said vehicle is going 10mph or slower, and even then, its probably only chasing the vehicle to be in its shade. they are nocturnal, but when awake in the day they move from shade to shade to stay as cool as possible.

Shut up, they're still cool lookin'

oh, I never said they weren't cool looking. They are pretty fascinating actually. And no doubt if I saw so running up to me while laying in the sand, I'd have to things running in my mind: 1) that thing just wants to use the shade my body is making, and 2) fuck if that thing is getting within two feet of me!

I absolutely hate spiders and, well basically all things considered to be arachnids or related.

I just hate how misinformation spreads so much faster than the truth. :p

I live in Thornton Colorado and yep, I have seen a few of those around the house. Usually they are dead though. I virtually have never seen one alive inside, and probably don't want to either.....

I'm in NoCo as well, Greeley, and caught one of those in my apartment. Doubt they're too dangerous, but FYI they jump.

OMG

If I ever found something like that in my house I wouldn't sleep for a week.

I'd just burn the house down and the surrounding neighborhood. That shit had to be spawned from something in the area.

Threadjack!

I don't think I'd even get past "as" because as soon as I saw those legs hanging past the edge I'd shove that clock flat against the wall.

Um, yeah.. if I saw one of those things crawling anywhere in my vicinity I'd have to just leave the continent permanently. Imagine one of those dropping down from the ceiling while you're taking your shower.

Not Antarctica, unless you want to count the giant sea spiders.

JESUS, if you scroll to the huntsman spiders (bottom on the page), the picture actually moves. :|

I know, those freakin bastards.

I had to remove a load of those from our rental house in Australia while we lived there ... 1 year of occasional terror (esp. my wife), and gross cleanups when I was forced to kill them. Not my favourite activity :p
