What in the heck....a wks file as a spreadsheet?

I'm trying to help out this lady from church with her spreadsheet. I explained it at church but to no avail, so I told her just to email me the spreadsheet and I would put the formulas in for her. Anyway I get the email and it is a .wks file 😕 seeing how I only have Microsoft Office is there anyway I can open this up and put the proper formulas in for her or am i going to have to make a house call (I don't get paid just so you know)?

Doesn't MS Office have a converter for .wks files. I'm pretty sure it does for other things like Lotus.

I just looked under Help in Excel 2000 and found this when I typed in .wks:

"I can't open a file I created in Microsoft Works.
Microsoft Excel 2000 cannot directly open files created in Microsoft Works version 3.0 or later. To open a spreadsheet file in Excel, you must first open the Microsoft Works file you want to use in your Microsoft Works program. On the File menu, click Save As, and then select one of the following file formats in the Save as type list. Save and close the file before you try to open it in Excel.

Actually I was referring to the guy who couldn't understand why someone might use old software instead of paying several hundred dollars for new software. Since you also seem to lack the sense to tell who I was talking about, despite it being completely obvious, I'll come out and say it very plainly: I'm talking about you, Staley8. I hope you don't get confused again.

WKS is a Lotus 123 format. Change the filename extension to .WK4 and see if Excel can open it natively.

It always bothered me that MS Works and MS Office were so incompatible. The right hand has no idea that the left hand even exists.
