Following this thread...
This is what i did last night:
1. Ripped out all non-essential components
2. Reformatted C: partition
3. Installed XP on C: partition
4. Installed SP2 update cd
5. Activated Windows
6. Disabled system restore & pagefile
7. Defragged C:
8. Reenabled system restore & pagefile
9. WindowsUpdate
10. Installed video card drivers
Upon reboot into windows after installing the ATI drivers, some funky things were happening...
Right clicking on the desktop (or anywhere for that matter) provided a continuous series of 'beeps' from the computer speaker. Left clicking deemed just as dubious, as clicking on anything simply didnt work (except Start Menu and Turn Off Computer).
Except once in the Turn Off Computer dialog, it would only let me select Stand-By, not restart or shutdown, although it wasnt that the other choices were greyed out, just no matter where i clicked, it would click standby
Restarted about 10 times, no luck, same thing....
Turn off the computer, unplug the power for about 14 hours, come back this afternoon and she boots fine....
Any idea WTF that was?
