I am just wondering what improvement will the 1.3ghz (New clock speed) Thunderbird? I believe the 1.3ghz thunderbird will be available late in March. Is it going to have Palomino core?

I think the Palomino core`s will start at 1.5Ghz (not sure maybe 1.4Ghz) I read it somewhere???

Isn't it a newer "C" core nonetheless? I thought I heard it "only" uses 1.7vcore instead of 1.75 by default, and goes to 90C instead of 95C. (Which suggests it runs slightly cooler.) Does anybody know?

"1.35ghz (9X150)" :Q:Q:Q

I'm running my retail 1.1GHz underclocked at "only" 1.066GHz @1.575V (133x8), lower voltage occasionally produced errors. You must have one helluva fast machine though!

That's a nice "underclock" you have there. I prefer the lower voltage at the sacrifice of some mhz myself..nice job. You really won't notice much of a speed difference at that "underclock", but you must run much cooler with that lower voltage. I actually ran 1.65v for awhile, but some games would give errors occasionally. Everyone keeps telling me these Abit boards are junk, but every one I have had so far works like a charm..:)

At default 1.1GHz clock, my Tbird was able to run at 1.625V, so the power reduction isn't that big:

1.100GHz @default= 59.2 watts
1.100GHz @1.625V = 50.8 watts
1.066GHz @1.575V = 46.2 watts

Experimentation revealed that I'd have to go down to ~800MHz, before I could run fanless. So instead, I picked the highest non-overclocked CPU speed, at the lowest 100% error-free voltage. My 2500RPM quiet Adda fan can easily handle the heat.

Well, my Hedgehog/Delta combo works awesome...but it's sure not quiet. I am used to it..it kind of blends in with the noise of the other 7 fans in my case..:)

Only 2 fans in my system (because both are absolutely necessary:)

- Adda 16dB fan (60x60x25mm 2500RPM) attached to Kanie Hedgehog copper CPU heatsink
- Adda sensor-regulated PSU fan on 300W QuietPC.com power supply

My IBM 75GXP hard drive is running in "quiet mode", inside a QuietPC.com SilentDrive enclosure. The seeks are completely inaudible, and spinning noise is minimal.

And yet, I still think my system is just too loud! Even though it's quieter than most any computer I've recently encountered. It can never be too quiet :( Sorry for the delusional, maniacal rant!

Leo, that is a nice goal you are going for there..the quiet PC. Not too many people go that route, it's nice to see.:) I picked up one of those Acryllic cases and I love it, great airflow. I have a different strategy when it comes to a loud PC...I use my 8.2 Promedia setup to drown it out..hehe.;):)

Im still wondering why Leo went with a Hedgehog, copper transfers heat better, but it doesnt release heat as fast. So by mixing copper and a small fan your not getting rid of alot of heat, I would think aluminum would work much better with a slow speed fan.

Dulanic does have a good point there. The copper HSF doesn't perform nearly as well when it's paired with a YS Tech as opposed to the Delta..at that voltage though it shouldn't be a big deal..

Dulanic, I'm pretty sure that the 'copper doesn't release heat' theory has been proven not to be true. I know there was an extensive article debunking the theory, maybe it was at overclockers.com.
