Intel released a processor that, rated at the same mhz speed as the newest AMD at the time, and the intel overcame the AMD in every single benchmark, with no question, with more than a 30% increase.

Would all of you AMD zealots turn into Intel Zealots, or would you try to defend AMD in any way you could?



I'm not a zealot to either company myself, I simply buy the one at the time that has the best price/performance ratio. Back in the pentium 2 days, I wouldn't buy a K6-2 though, because they were (and still are) utter pieces of garbage. I'd rather have a good ol' Cyrix 🙂
 
I'm sorry but, but why even ask this question. I think many people held allegiance to Intel until the end of the BX and the incarnation of the Athlon, because Intel was the most powerful. Now AMD is, and people like AMD. If Intel overtook them completely then why the hell would people stay with AMD?

exactly, i dont give a damn who makes it in this case. if amd is faster and cheaper then i go with amd. if intel is able to make faster chips cheaper then ill go with them. now if this were msft and another company it'd be other company all the way 🙂

I wouldn't be an AMD or Intel zealot, but I'd be running an Intel CPU.
 
I can go with the best bang for the buck . . . and also reliability.

AMD has done well . . . if it were not from them, Intel's prices would be twice what they are today. So, we need to keep them both around in order to keep the market competitive.

I have two main systems . . . might even have one of each! <G>

Intel is better with mobile CPUs than AMD (primarily because of heat and power consumption)
 
Despite the fact I am a big fan of the underdog (still AMD), I would run an Intel processor if it had the features I needed. It's tough getting answers about certain things from hardware companies. I want to build a server for my home network, but finding info on ECC memory support in motherboards is not an easy task. But I know most Intel chipsets should support it so I am considering a P!!!. So I would not consider myself a zealot for AMD, I just think they currently have the best product.
 
Depends...How does price play into the issue?

I like the Performance/price ratio of AMD's stuff - Whole system cost (NO RDRAM)
