Well folks.... it was fun while it lasted. Our democracy that is....
We got some 200+ years out of it, but a good thing can't last forever.
After it all comes to an end and America turned into a dictatorial shit-hole where truth has died and propaganda abounds, maybe.... just maybe one day, many decades from now, an individual will rise out of the ashes who preaches freedom and liberty for all. I don't think many Trumpists would side with the Russians, believe it or not. Don't get me wrong, they frequently cozy up to Putin right now... but there's a history of these conservatives having their illusions shattered when reality arrives at their doorstep.

The classic example is the pandemic denier who regrets their anti-mask/vax stance after they've been hospitalized. You can also look to the trucker protests in Canada. Many of those people swore they'd hold out to the bitter end, and were convinced they could end pandemic mandates or even topple the government — but they folded like cards when faced with the real prospects of criminal charges, running out of funds, and a lack of public support.

I would expect similar in this scenario. It's easy to echo Trump's fondness for Putin when there's very little danger besides some Russian hacks. It'd be another thing entirely if the Russians shell your kid's school and threaten time in a prison camp for complaining about it.
