what if you lie to get a credit card?

on the amex blue site, it looks pretty easy to make up some figures form income and residence.

I want an amex blue card but since im a student (dont want the student one b/c no pricematch) they declined me.

So my question is what if i make up some info in order to get approved? will they ever find out if i always pay my bills on time?

I believe they verify all of your information so anything that isn't correct they will probably catch and still decline you.

Well if nothing else, they'll likely do a little checking as to your past credit history and you won't get it regardless of what you say on the app. Wanna get endless pre-approved CC's in the mail? Buy a house. I get at least one every day....apparently if you're willing to soak yourself with a 30 year commitment to a loan, they're willing to sport you a credit line of $5000 or so. Vultures.

the only thing they can do is check your credit report as far as I know, and nowhere on my credit report does it list my income, (although I wish it did, I have been turned down for amex blue because of my age and demographics, if they knew how much money I made they would be groveling to give me credit.. fewls)

but .... if they caught me, is it highly illegal for credit card fraud, meaning punishable by law?

the only thing i foresee is that if they catch me ill probblay never ever able to get amex blue again

Geez, no kidding.... I get at least 3 or 4 a week since I bought my house last August... Last week I even got an offer for a $20K Home Equity loan, for my parents' house! :Q Apparently they think because I lived there for 3 months before I bought my house that I must be the owner... The same company sent me the same offer about a week later for this house...

At least they got it right the second time around...

You could kiss your chances of getting anything goodbye, not just Blue. I would think they would be able to tag on that credit report that you lied on an application.

With as frail as credit ratings are, I wouldn't want to give the credit card company ANY reason to bash me.
