What if we paid our senior citizens to emigrate?

...and never have the option of returning.

This shall be called the, "Emigration Plan"

Shoot, if someone said "Hey, I'll give you $50k if you leave and go to Mexico, but you just can't come back ever again"

Who wouldn't want to take that?

Bingo, budget problems solved. The other countries will be dying to get that $50k loan down payment and will be blinded by the future problems.

:D

.....not serious but I have never seen this discussed

So seniors aren't doing any spending? The brainwashing you're getting in school leads you to believe that seniors don't contribute to our economy.

$50K? Really? Are you anxious for school to start up in the fall? If $50K is a lot of money to you, I'm wondering if you're old enough to drive.

*sigh*, I'm thinking of all the potential space beneath boomerang's post, and thinking how appropriate it would be if it was all filled in with ponies.

Never said I was "Pro Senior Emigration", it's just a crazy idea I'd like to see people discuss. I will definitely play devils advocate though, just for the sake of conversation

Shit, I've got family in Mexico and New Zealand. I can open a restaurant in either country for 50k. Where do I sign up?

It's an interesting idea even if it is unrealistic. You could pay third-world countries to take care of and give cheap medical care to communities of American old people. Of course old people are the least likely to want to move to another country and would complain about the medical care.

Stop being such a turd with that attitude. $50,000 would go a long way in a third world country. Of course it's unlikely the US government would be able to pay such lump sums up front.

<reserved for ponies>
Go ahead, post the ponies. You know you really, really want to. Ponies would look really good here. Ponies are good everywhere, right? You could bump this thread every time it's ready to drop off the front page with more ponies.

Oh wait, you've been chastised for posting ponies here.

Nevermind.

Old people would never take that deal. They aren't going to give up their Medicare and Social Security for $50,000, especially since they probably have some idea of how much their medical care costs each month (even if they aren't paying for all of it).

Ya think?

The U.S. will continue to pay SS benefits depending on the country and various other conditions.

Emigrate US seniors 60+ to Canada with $100k so they can get cheap meds and government insurance then let more young immigrants in from Mexico and legalize them to handle the physical work demands of the US. Problem solved. Next...

My wife would go to mexico for a lot less than $50,000. As for me, there is no amount of money that would get me out of my country.

Seniors spend plenty for room and board and healthcare. You might be surprised about this I have heard of some countries offering things like heart bypass surgery for a lot less than in the USA. Some people are taking Medical Holidays to save money.
