(a) the sun has disappeared, exploded or been converted into a black hole
(b) the Earth's rotation has been stilled.
On the bright side, we can drop the SETI@Home work since none of the above will happen naturally until hundreds of millions of years from now. We can also drop it because we'll all be dead soon, but every silver lining has a cloud.

Alright,,, lets say that the Sun dissappeared and we find out self with no sun on the next rotation.
