We all know that the RedCross didn't get an A+ for it's response to 9/11.

What do you suppose would be the response if gross mismanagement and perhaps even corruption were to come to light?

What if displaced southerners get inadaquate help from them?

The trouble with 9/11, as I understood it, was the "mismanagement" of funds. It's hard for me to criticize the Red Cross (a humanitarian, non-government, volunteer, non-funded) organization in the same way I could FEMA (for which my mandatory tax dollars go)

Why not? If funds you GAVE them specifically for 9/11 relief went to some general fund to finance other programs, don't you think you have the right to be pissed?

Honestly, the only reason i posted this thread was to see what the overall response to Redcross efforts has been.

I have not heard anything concering their efforts. By all means, the lack of coverage might be a good thing, but I was hoping people with experience and knowledge on the matter would post.

I just want to know more about the redcross, for worse or for better.

My Dad is working with them and from what I heard they are definitely helping.

Honestly, I just want info.

They've been doing a pretty great job down here. I've heard stories of them (I think) turning away volunteers who improperly filled out the two pages of paperwork apparently required to work with them, but other than that, I haven't heard any complaints.

If you're worried about your dad's safety, depending on what area he's in, I'm fairly sure you shouldn't stress yourself too much about it. I haven't heard reports of aid workers being attacked anywhere other than NO, and based on the fact that only the national news media is reporting that about NO, I have my doubts as to how widespread all that is as well.

Most red cross workers seem to be at various shelter sites (here in Baton Rouge, and various places in Mississippi and Alabama), or at the towns that're more easily accessible by road. They also seem to be very much appreciated, other than the few loud-mouthed a##hats (who I will not classify as evacuees, as they don't deserve even that title) that seem to abound in every population.

Thanks. Hopefully he is fine.
