What if the my pc is turned on for too long?

Uh, it's not bad. Servers run for months on end, assuming there are no problems in which they need to shut down.
 
A friend of mine gave me his old p2 233 that he left on all the time. When you start it up, after being cold, it will lock up several time untill it gets warmed up. Then it runs perfect after that.

that is either a) a windows box that now moves the mouse, but not much else or b) a *nix box 😀

I have hit 400 days on a linux server, but then we had a brown out, and the UPS was dead 🙁
 
I've heard stories of some Naval phone switches that run Unix running for 5-7+ YEARS continuously and without a single shutdown.

At that level though they proabably had server clusters or something so if their was ever a Hardware failure it wasn't a big deal.

it will result in an incredibly large electric bill and probably giving hackers enough time to upload oompa loompa secks into your wallpaper.
