If the "left" had its way from the '50s, those governments wouldn't be in place in the first place.

Let's see. When Carter was Pres, The Soviet brutally invaded Afghansistan, religious fanatics gained control of Iran, and Marxist took part of Central American. In all cases, people were free and had full civil rights, right?

you're two decades off.

If the leftist had their way, and we hadn't "meddled", the Taliaban and Saddam would still be in power. Do you think that would be a good thing?

(snipped irrelevant fluff)
Who was against removing the Taliban from power? At the time, I don't remember mass protests from either side. The protests have been over Iraq. Of course, now that a bit of closure has come to Afghanistan, it turns out that we didn't do such a good job there, but I don't think many people were opposed to military action there. Don't try to lump those two together.
Remember,

9/11 + x = You're wrong!

What if the Right got its way and destroyed every part of the environment in this country?

What if the Left were allowed to tax any/all income.

What if the Left allowed/forced transfer of wealth to the "unfortunate"

What if the Left allowed pure socialism - government must take care of you from cradle to grave.

What if the Left allowed a company to be destroyed because the company was making money.

All the above had either happened or been talked about as needed by the Left.

Both sides are fools and pander to the least common denominator. Idiots without common sense.

There is more than one way to destroy a company.

And it isn't always done by the "left".

Enron, Tyco, Worldcom, etc. ring a bell?

You're as guilty as the rest of us EK.

No denying it.

Note the last sentence that I wrote

I was not trying to shift the blame; just point out that one can sit on either side of the fence and pretend that the grass is greener and/or browner on either side.

Many of the big corporations were allowed to self-destruct because of the way the government oversights were either setup and/or gutted.

During the expansion era under Clinton, much wheeling and dealing was ignored/hidden because everything looked rosy.

When the bubble burst, then the house of cards started falling and fingers were pointed every which way.

Policies set in place over the past 20 years were ineffective and/or ignored.

The ambiguous "left" is at it again. Don't worry. I'm way more liberal than what you're calling the "left."
What if the left is successful and we leave Iraq with our tail between our legs like the terrorists and terrorist states desire?
We might get more people back in one piece, kill fewer directly, and kill and disease fewer indirectly w/ all the DU being shot.
Do you think that would improve the stability of the Middle East and our homeland security or hurt it?
I don't think it would make a bit of difference.

Afghanistan slightly had to do with 9/11--and it was overdone (but successful, ultimately).
Saudi Arabia had more to do with it (but we need them for energy, you know...)
Iraq had jack to do with it. It has nothing to do with anything but natural resources, and possibly some valuable history--what used to be in museums now destroyed or on the black market.

Fighting terrorism is 99% intelligence. A bunch of obvious troops won't do much of anything to help.

What's really sad is that the left and the Democrats should be pounding the President and the Republicans over economic issues, but instead they fell into the trap of getting distracted by Iraq. I'm not surprised though since the left and the Democrats don't have any answers on the economy. Both parties are worthless and the enemies of the nation's middle class as far as I'm concerned.

It's still the economy, stupid.

The democrats cry about the economy might not hold water when the economy is stronger than it has ever been and more and more people are living well without the democrats interfearance.

What is going on in Iraq now is a different story but I do believe the democrats did do harm both before and after the war had begun. I think that their publicly stating their appossing views( who knows if that is how they really felt or if it was just a partisan stance) did give Saddam reason to think that the United States would back down. And than even when the fighting went from and invading force to an occupation force the democrats open insulting of the president emboldaned the terrorist forces that plaque Iraq and also prevented us from fighting back like we should have to save face from what the newspapers would write.
