It would hide a little something in each episode that transmits personal information back to Sony every few minutes or so, but it can be overwritten by just going around the edges of your TV with a permanent marker.

Your TV would all of a sudden show weird artifacts when displaying non-Sony shows because of rootkits and virus-like software installed on your TV. Your TV would have to be connected to the internet to watch the show, and would only do so after your TV checked in with Sony to verify that you were not somehow using a DVR or other such pirate device. Attempts to skip over commercials would cause your TV to turn off permanently until a reconnect fee was paid to Sony.
