Thread about WInchester CPUs which fail Prime and other apps at STOCK speed

There is discussion going on right now whether some earlier (especially week 37) AMD winchester core CPUs are defective.

People are reporting SOME chips cant run prime or Knoppix Linux/Kernel compilation at STOCK speed. Which for me means the CPU is *DEFECTIVE*.

I have a week 37 winchester which i got for $315 from monarch its a OEM CPU- unable to test since still waiting foir the Nforce4 motherboards ! Warranty is already gone. I had 60day warranty. Monarch also didnt want me to sell an additional warranty. I asked them.

What rights as a consumer do i have *in case* it would turn out this $315 OEM CPU is defective..eg. unable to calculate right at stock speeds, warranty already gone etc. ?

Why would you buy a CPU without a motherboard to go with it ? They only get cheaper anyway. I just tried to get in on an error on outpost.com for a P4 3.2E and motherboard for $179, but they said it was a typo, and would not honor it. 3.0E is what is is supposed to be (still not bad, but there is a $199 deal for a 3200+ A64 combo in-store at Fry's)
