What If................ (im not trying to start another flame war)

what if someday a game requires a 3.0GHz cpu and AMD doesent have any. well i was thinking of this when i was on my way up to my lakehouse. would all the amd users be screwd? please dont Flame this thread into WWIII. 😉

no theyd simply have a xp3000 or a A64 2800 and play the game better than the 3.0Ghz P4

i reckon AMD could well hit 3.0Ghz easy with their FX line, but as it stands they'd only be beating themselves...much better and cruel to intel to let them catch up only to then release a 3.0Ghz FX and intel would be back at square 1.....playing 2nd fiddle to AMD in the gaming arena

yeah but the clock speeds would be lower like a A64 3400 @ 2.4GHz, it still wouldent let you play the game, beacuse it requires 3. then the game wouldent launch.

guess he doesnt realize yet that AMD have always had less mhz then intel, and that AMD have nearly always owned intel in games.

i have a game called flat out....it requires as a minimum, a 2ghz cpu, oh dear my A64 3200 is only 2.2Ghz im just over the requirement, by your sayings the game should run sh!t....but guess what, it runs the game much smoother than my friends intel system that is a 2.8Ghz.

AMD cpus do more work per mhz than intel, today mhz means jack in terms of performance. with equally clocked intel and amd chips, the amd would win

if a game needed "3ghz" then you could say Intel would be screwed. Beacuse you would need a 4.6 Ghz Intel CPU to match a AMD 3 Ghz or more.

otispunkmeyer you dont make sence ?

Believe it or not, a 3 Ghz AMD part (athlon 64) WOULD MONSTER A 3GHZ Penitum 4. Why ? in the short the athlon 64 has a higher IPC.

yeah and im saying this

when a game says requires a 3ghz cpu, they are always usually talkin in terms of intel. if u look on the back of some of the newer games like doom 3 and this flat out i have.....they say for example 2.0Ghz intel or equivalent AMD, or 2.0ghz Intel or 2000+ AMD

if a game says its needs a 3ghz cpu, then it will need a 3000+ AMD cpu or indeed a 3.0Ghz Pentium

ie doom says

MIN requirements

P4 1.5Ghz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+

its nearly always always being said in terms of intel pentiums, because to the average joe gamer, who doesnt even know what a CPU is, due to intels marketing he is sure to know who INTEL are and is less likely to of even heard of AMD

look again

people are already pushing their FX-55's to over 3.0Ghz on air, theres no reason AMD cant make them and sell them at that speed either

the simple fact is they dont need to, they have no one to beat.

if a game requires a 3.0ghz AMD cpu, then intel with their current architecture would need over 4Ghz to keep up

Yes it would because take the rating then compare it so guessing that a 3.0 ghz Amd is a AMD 64 4400 that it equals a Intel 4.4 ghz chip

this is a daft thread, did u not realize that 1)AMD win at games, and 2) mhz means nothing anymore, its all about performance ratings now

to me thats not MONSTERING, monstering to me would be like 100more fps. but thats only 30fps hehe, you proboly cant even tell the diff between them when your playing.

in reality that will likely never happen, as intel and AMD are in competition and will always be close-ish to each other

if AMD were to beat intel by intel by 100fps, id bet intel would be out the door with a faster cpu in no time, to close the gap
