I am 41 years of age. I have not seen Apple come up with 1 item... OTHER THAN making people rich off of already invented designs of other people's work. I mean heck... their iPhones are nothing more than readily available hardware with a different OS...

Put blatantly... I can construct a computer for about 300... not a high end build mind you... but a complete build along with OS. I try and sell it on the market I would be lucky to get 200.

I use the same hardware and goto any local gas station and buy a can of spray paint and a street junkies time by buying a meal... or you know what... THEN call it a Mac... suddenly said 300 spent is more than a grand.
Oh yes let us not forget OS X.whatever is rebadged linux... With whatever thc or amphetamines Apple decides to call their user interface. I mean look at the timeline... https://www.google.com/search?q=app...d=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=pt02_iC4cO_BdM:

All a CPU is on a computer is a 3d image is a complex series of silicon told which way to go through 'wire'... when I was born 3d CAD software was available anywhere. You just needed a supervisor... ere someone watching over you. One might get lucky and fine a early 80's CAD program. Input a simple extension of today's current top of the line xeon cpu cup and get crafty by plugging in a 3D printer...

Or like Atari games... we all have a place in the desert sand somewhere to make more silicon...

You need to double check your facts. MacOS isn't a rebadged Linux, it is loosely based off of one of the BSDs with a lot of stuff Apple wrote themselves.

Apple redefined how much Good Marketing will enable a company to extract additional money from their consumers.

They are the Gold Standard.

Yes when it comes to marketing they are indeed the Gold Standard.

On another note, Apple did come up with the AppleII series which were pretty good, especially the Apple IIgs which was more popular then the Mac was for a time.

LOL! Haven't read a good ol' "I Hate Apple" screed in a long time. In fact, not since the days of the old website "Ihateapple" where people could sound off. (Just a quick check, it actually still exists, though sadly, hard to even find a good 'Macintrash' screed, just seems like a bunch of political rambling.).

I'm curious.. what has *ANY* modern company actually invented themselves, from whole cloth? Why is Apple held to such a silly 'standard' that no one else is?

What exactly does the OP want to see? An Apple Teleporter? Apple anti-gravity-hoverboard? Maybe a device from Star Trek where you wave it over a cancer patient and they are cured.

I guess until Apple invents something no one has ever seen before, they will continue to suck. Oh well.

Who are the hillbillies that Apple made rich, BTW? They sound like a fun bunch. (Or was he thinking Forrest Gump? That's a fictional character, if so :) )

The OP laments building a $300 computer that he can't sell for anything more than a $100 loss... well... I'd guess you're not that good at building computers then. Plenty of other people are, and the profit is in their time and expertise, not strictly what they paid for the hardware.

Nice to read a good rant tho!

Apple wants $299 for the latest iPod which has 80% the capacity of the iPod Classic but with the retarded Touch interface. iPod saved Apple and this is how they treat their users. :(

P.S. Apple still hasn't figured out how to write a random number generator.

Before I brought my first MP3 player, I made it would work in Linux and didn't need any software that was proprietary to the device. My first one was from RCA and then the second from Archos(if I remember the name correctly). Both worked pretty well.

Good rant.

To name a few:

they invented/developed a better mp3 player than everyone else.

they invented/developed a thinner, more portable laptop than everyone else.

they invented/developed an simple, user friendly OS for their phone that they don't licence to everyone else.

They invented/developed a way to sell music that was easier and more convenient than the competition at the time.

They made sure that if you wanted things that you felt were better than everyone else you had to buy it from them. They made sure if you spent the money you felt you had something better than everyone else.

They came up with a model to sell music, which took people back to the legal market.

They showed that you could sell at a premium price point to avoid all that shovel-ware that comes with new PCs. But that being said, that was accessible to anyone who wanted to reinstall Windows fresh or install a build of Linux.

Ain't nobody forcing people to get those aluminum laptops.

Sorry, but the term "invent" really doesn't apply to any of those. Developed is accurate though, except for the 2nd one which isn't actually true.

But that said, almost no company truly "invents" anything, so it's a silly standard to hold Apple to.

I'd add that a lot of the companies that do invent technology in the truest sense... often don't get it right. They have a clever idea, but no idea how to implement it in a way that everyday people would like. Like the first portable MP3 player, the MPMan. Lousy interface, tiny storage (12 songs!), just... no good. The technology had to catch up, and someone had to step in who actually understood interface and industrial design.

Apple has made a lot of innovative products and shaped the market while doing it. I have an iphone 7 plus and i like it very much. I have never had an Apple computer. I think they are too overpriced for what you get and they do not do anything different than the pc's that i have built. Lately Apple has not done nearly as much innovation in the area of computers. A major reason why is that they have chosen to put almost all of their resources into the iphone since that is where they are making 90% of their money. The computer development team is now part of the iphone team. I think this has frustrated many apple computer users. Although, we are in an age now where more people are using their phone and tablet more than their computer.

That they then force you to use their software to play and make it difficult to transfer between multi devices. Yes you can easily find your MP3 files, but the majority of the population isn't going to go search for them let alone figure out how to transfer to other devices.
