What if a website was created that had free filtered advertising?

OK, so here's what I'm thinking...

You see all of these people trying to sell products on infomercials, in stores... etc. They pay f or advertising.

What if a website was created which everyone knew about, THAT website was advertised in papers, on TV, etc.... and then people that made infomercial products advertised on that website.

Would it work? It would save them money, so the products would be cheaper, no?

You're obviously thinking of making a site like that, I assume. Not that I'm shunning your idea. I don't see how you'd make any money off it it besides Google Ads, but then that'd defeat the purpose of the website, lol

There's a business opportunity there if you had tvads.com/product and you actually produced a mini website for each advertisement. By vertically integrating production with hosting you could sell a packaged solution that's profitable for you and beneficial for the customer.

Wouldn't even be that hard, just slap together some templates and sell them as "custom produced web 2.0 advertising vehicles".

Hmm, actually maybe I should do this instead of you. Since its a good idea i'm sure the market is already saturated, however.

just a few constructive thoughts:

the manufacturer might save money on advertising, but they'd lose substantial money from direct sales. i'd imagine that the medium of direct sales on TV makes them a crapload of money, otherwise they'd just sell their wares in stores. let's say i'm a guy with a "million dollar" idea and i want to create a product, market it, and sell it. i don't see an advantage to sell on your site, unless it's got the popularity of an Amazon.com or Buy.com. even then, I can sell on Amazon.com already and they took quite a bit of time and money to become as popular as they have.

also, there are already tons of "As seen on TV" sites online:

http://www.google.com/search?q=as+seen+...-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US😱fficial&client=firefox-a

i enjoy listening to business ideas, so i'm not trying to be a downer. i'd love to hear how you'd make this work.

Why would anyone visit a website to see ads? Most people want to block ads.

Exactly.

And then a categorized main page, simply for PRODUCTS that people have made and want to sell lots of. There aren't many of those around that don't charge commissions.

Seriously, the site could allow you to keep updated inventories of your product, etc. etc.

This really isn't viable?

My idea is easier although not as lucrative.

Offer free or cheap web hosting with forced Google ads using http://www.ihostdev.com/ipanel.html

🙂

Is this really viable though? I mean, surely I could easily whip up a set of PHP scripts and allow people to make websites and host them on my server, but would people really want to use that?

Yes.

Would people want to? No.

But the reality is people are either cheap or lazy.

Then there are those who are both, why not profit off of them?

Considering he is targeting the types of "people" that would sit through an infomercial, there might be hope...
