You really want to have some fun, download this mod:

Desert Combat
Dumb question- once you install the mod, can you find servers on the bf1942 control panel or do you need gamespy or ?

After installing, you'll be able to filter out all the regular BF-1942 servers and only show the Desert Combat servers in the regular game browser. Also you'll have a seperate icon to start Desert Combat in addition to your BF-1942 icon. You'll still need to use the filter though.

But why couldn't they? I can't imagine it would take that much to think up invade Britain scenarios or something...

And I always try to beat games like this in single player before I go online, it hones my skills. I played online once, and it stuttered when I walked. I could look around, and it was smooth, but waking sucked. This was on a 65ms ping server too.

download the All Seeing Eye. It works great for finding servers.

What I hate about the game is all the retards that play it like it is quake or something thinking they are a 1 man wrecking crew. All it takes is 3-4 guys working together and you'll destroy the other team. Oh and I hate that nobody takes advantage of the artillery with scouts calling when I'm on arty, or arty actually hitting where I call when I'm scout, and I hate that everyone stands around and waits for the planes. But I LOVE the game. Ya, and I hate how the game forces me to play until 2 in the morning and then I'm tired all day b/c of it, and they it makes me do it again the next night.....and now I just got the desert combat mod, I'm in trouble.

Then, I play the game as the Axis, and it's the same damn missions. I beat the allies horribly in every battle, yet I'm getting ready to defend Berlin. How did that happen??? If I'm beating them in Normandy, how did they get ashore? Why are they in Berlin if I just beat them at the Battle of the Bulge?

You would have thought the designers would have made a slightly different scenario for the axis part of the game.

The designers specifically said that they focused on multiplay and didn't spend much time on singleplay. So that is why it is lacking.

why are you playing single player?

I played battlefield 1942 for the first time yesterday, it was at some computer place near where I live, and they have 200 computers on a lan connection, its a fun game when you have 64 people playing :D. I was there for 5 hours solid just playing that game, then I realized I was hungry so I had to leave and get something to eat.

All that 65ms ping tells you is how fast your connection to the server is. It doesn't mean that the server can handle the load it has from all the other players. Hence, you can have a 300 or 400 mhz server with a really fat pipe, and it will have a nice ping, but then it won't keep up with the load and will stutter. Since there are plenty of servers, even for the relatively new mod DC, you shouldn't have a problem finding a server that not only has a phat pipe to the net but a fast enough processor running it too.

BF1942 is in a league of its own, you HAVE NOT PLAYED BF1942 until you played it with the Desert Combat Mod on a 2GHZ+/512MB RAM+/TI4200+ or greater system.

That's why you get together with a few of your buddies online in the same server and communicate via TeamSpeak or something. I do this with a group of friends and we wreak havoc on a regular basis. Having someone to call in artillery for you in particular makes a HUGE difference on some maps. You can hide way off in the corner somewhere and shell target to soften them up for the ground troops and tanks.....they never know what hit them. :D

Seems to run fairly well on my P4 2.4GHz/768MB/GF3Ti200 (240/540). :)

I bought a copy of this game when it first came out...online play was really laggy on my system (at the time XP1800/512MB/Radeon 8500/cable connection). Especially close-quarters fighting, the gameplay was lacking (compared to CS or MOH:AA). I sold it since then but thinking about buying it if it's fixed.

How can anyone judge the compare tha awful demo to the full game? Name one game that isnt a resource hog that hasent been released in the last 6 months! Battlefield 1942 is the the most incrediable game ever created by god! Ohkay, maybe not but anyway. It is the best game ever! I just got back from a lan. I went a 12PM to 4AM! The new Desert Combat version is awesome! Makes you want to join the army!
