Well, what do you all think would be the best? I haven't been able to find a decent hsf out there thats not like a 7000rpm 80dB cooler that has enough headroom to oc a XP2700. Some other ones with bigger less noisier fans are around 600grams- 2x what AMD recomends. with 9kilo's of contact pressure on the CPU die itself being recomended. a 600g cooler might crack my core :(.

Whats your vote. I might end up doing watercooling but doesn't condensation collect on the piping that can short out stuff even if u use distilled water? Water cooling is expensive! And i might end up frying all my expensive stuff. Any help would be nice :)

if you're serious about overclocking that thing i would look into watercooling. Having only built one setup my experience is limited but I think condensation is more of a problem with peltiers. Of course a full blown water leak would be even worse : )

if you stay with air I think the general consensus here is that the swiftech and alpha heatsinks are the best performing. You can select the 80mm fan of your choice to utilize.

I don't see a clip on the one at newegg.com, looks like you'd need to bolt it to the mobo. Fun :) do all mobo's have holes to bolt a hsf? I'm gunna use the Asus A7N8X Nforce2 if it matters.

I like the idea of using a 80mm fan of your choice :)

EDIT: how tight should i screw it in if i decide to get the alpha

Well I haven't gotten a reply in a different thread so I'll repost my question here: Does the XP2700+ unlock with the last L3 bridge? or a wire mod? or someway different altogether?

I posted the link in the other thread.

Have you looked into the Coolermaster HHC-001??? I have it on my XP2700+ and I have it clocked to 2520mhz at the moment...

Not direct to your question, but watercooling straightup does not produce condensation. It's only when you use other methods of cooling like TECs or phase-change cooling where the temps drop below ambient does condensation occur. Watercooling is expensive, elaborate, and kind of a PITA but the performance vs. noise can't be beaten by air alone.

I posted in another thread too.
but I still believe 100% in my CoolerMaster HHC-001...
what a fantastic HSF... I love it.

other then watercooling id say the AX-7 with some AS3 would do teh trick quite nicely

I'm with TheEvil1. My AX-7 with a 2000 rpm steath fan keeps my 1700+ B running at 1875 Mhz a cool (and quiet!) 30 C. :D

I agree on the HHC-100...I have one sitting on my XP1600 running at 1750Mhz, and current temp is 42C. I have an 80MM aluminum fan (37CFM/26Db) on an adapter, and it's very quiet! The stock fan is also sold to the Air Force as a jet turbine, however........

Ditto.
The SLK-800 is an excellent HS. You can use it with almost any speed of 60/80mm fan and still get good results. I have one running with a YS-Tech Silent 80mm (20dBa/27CFM), and i get very good temps for my XP1800.
With an SLK-800 on your processor, the only thing to worry about is the fan to fit on it. Be it a Delta or a Papst, you`ll get good cooling.
And did i mention that it rules for OCing.
As far as i`m conserned, and many website, its the best air cooled HS available. And you dont have to mess aroudn with the holes on the motherboard, cos it use`s the 3 clip design on both sides of the HS. So its nice and secure on your processor. Just dont move your rig about much though.

Yup. I had one w/ a 80mm Sunon...pretty good.
