What hours are midshift normally?

Trying to find a friend in the Air Force and the guy told me he was on midshift. Would that be second shift(early afternoon to late evening)?

in the Navy, our midshift was 00:00 to 08:00 , so you went in at 23:00 , took over from swing shift around 23:30 and left about 07:30 when the day shift relieved you

*edit* "mid" meaning midnight shift

many civilians refer to it as graveyard

I dont know how it works in the military, but like FoBoT said, in my civilian datacenter job, 'midshift' would mean to me : 2nd shift, ours is 16:00 - 00:00. 00:00 - 8:00 being 3rd shift "graveyard"

It makes sense hes working 3rd. when I called him on friday around 3 in the afternoon, the guy said hes on midshift and will be back monday. I'll try tonight and hope for the best
