what hl2/doom3 engine games are coming out?

For the HL2 engine...there aren't many games that require you to pay coming out...BUT there are dozens and dozens of free MODS. These mods are free and are very good, some mods are HL2:CTF, plan of attack, garry's mod, cs:s (included). I suggest you looking at the many mods avaliable for free. These mods are made by the community but you can barely notice the difference.

Some great games coming out that require you to pay are Day of Defeat: Source, HL2: Aftermath, CS2 (maybe), TF2 (maybe)

There are some games that are using Source coming out as well. There is an MMO using Source that is going to come out by the same people that made Arx Fatalis. I remember hearing of another one as well but I forget. Both games were not coming out too soon. Vampire used the Source engine.

Doom3: Q4, RTCW2, QW:ET, Prey

Unreal: lots of games.

Vampire the masqurade used an early version of the source engine. But ya stn is right and it looks like a lot source wise is comming. The doom engine, great as it is seems limited in field of view. The far cry engine seems really good to me as well. But unreal if it lives up to the demos is gonna rule. Thats a big if of course as the other engines have shipped product we can look at. As always, this is just my opinion.

I think in general that there has been a gravitation toward Unreal. You can't deny how easy it is to use (relatively speaking, of course), and you can't beat the toolset. My guess is that support is probably the best, too. They've been in the licensing game far longer than Valve (and seem more committed than Id), and thus have many established resources for supporting licensees.

I know if I was running a game studio, Unreal would be my first choice.

There NEEDS to be more games using Source IMO. HL2 has incredible graphics and runs very well on a wide-range of systems, and has pretty solid netcode.

I've always wondered why there was so many different game engines out, when the gameplay is so similar. 2-3 engines and a bit modding should be enough for everyone, unless somebody actually try to make a game that is not just another FPS.

several games being made on D3 engine are adding id tech, one being the "megatexture" thing which I think is countering that weakness (if i read your point rightly). With no more fog, strong vehicles and AAA titles covering both individual/few player games (Q4) and mass servers (ET:QW) the DOOM3 engine should be looking like a good proven all rounder before too long.

U3 engine looks awesome graphically though.

well with the problem of the odd looking low polygon models. esp the silouette. normal mapping only does so much i guess. cuz the parts that trick the eye with normal mapping are jarringly in contrast with the jaggedness of the low poly model
