What HFS combo for an XP 1600+ that i want to o/c?

Well...I've been searching, but I've been out of the loop so long, I dont know where to begin!

What do you guys think the best HSF combo for an XP 1600+ is? I would like to overclock it as well....I dont wanna spend TOO much.....And I have NO clue what to get 🙁

Check out Overclockers.com. They have a ranking compiled from their own testing of the best HSF combos based upon degrees C/W. I would recommend Thermalright over Thermaltake, despite the price difference.
I also recommend The Heatsink Factory When you're ready to shell out.

I just built a XP1600 up with a Volcano 7 on it. O/C to 1669mhz and it runs at 56c under full load. Not to bad for a $15 heatsink/fan! The fan is a little loud but that's what you get for wanting keep the temp down. I may try a different fan but the temp is going to go up I'm sure.

I got thermaltake volcano 9 on my xp 1600+ oced to 1.75ghz by means of 333mhz memory. It was $30. I set volcano 9 to 2500 rpm. When idle my CPU temp can be as low as 35 degrees, under full load though for a long time it can get as high as 55. I have one extra exhaust fan blowing below PSU and I don't turn on my intake fan cus sucking air in through that grill in the side of the case upfront makes too much noise. Plus, I've read front intake fans are almost useless. Exhaust ones by CPU are the most mportant ones.

I have an AXP 1500+ AGOIA oc'ed to 1.7ghz, and was running a Volcano 7 w/ a Panaflo H1A on it, and my temps were 44/53, I just put an Alpha PAL8045 with the same fan, and my temps are now 35/43C. IMO, the extra $15 more than a TT Volcano 7 was WELL worth it 🙂

I have a 1600+ oc to 1743mhz, 333fsb, ambient 40c idle 50c load 55c(prime95 for 14 hours). All that with a Volcano 2, 1 intake in front and 1 exhaust under psu in back.

i just bought a 1600+ its running at normal speeds. i have all 80mm fans, 2 exaust, 1 intake and one on my thermalright sk7 hs. i'm gettting a temp of about 52 when i just surf the net, and a sys temp of 30. i'm in indiana so its not like its 110 degrees out. i'm using artic silver on it. whats the deal this seems high

yeah, seems a bit high. i'm in texas and my wife keeps the house pretty hot (around 78F) this time of year. but my case is at 26C right now with 2 intake and 2 exhaust. nothing fancy and low cfm from vantec stealths.

i would try to lower yer case temp. remove the panel and see if it goes down any. also, u didnt mention which fan for your HS. the sk7 is a good sink but fan will matter a lot. and unfortuantely, the fans that work the best with the sk7 are the high dba ones (delta, tornado, direct flow ones, etc).

were u careful about a *thin* layer of as3? and are u sure the sk7 is set well?

If you want top performance but cant justify spending $45 on a hsf without fan, buy a Thermalright AX7. The performance is close to the SLK-800, and its about half the price.

By far the most tuneable Heatsink and Fan combination is the ALPHA PAL8045 with a Y.S. Tech adjustable speed fan.
The second choice for a H'sink would be a Swiftech MCX462-U, also with the Y.S. Tech fan.

A third choice - if you have to use the 'clip-on' mounting method, would be the ThermalRight SK-7, and once again the Y.S.Tech fan.

I have run and removed from my systems: Deltas, Panaflos, Antech SmartFans, ThermalTake SmartFan-2's - and replace them all with the Y.S. Tech adjustable. It's the best one out there for use on a CPU. From the High Speed Maximum CFM airflow delivery to the Low Speed Quietness - it covers the whole range and YOU control what you need.

You can dramatically reduce fan noise on Tt hsf by removing the fan grate with the emblem on it. Additionally, I have put o-rings between my fan and hs to reduce vibrations-I'm quite happy with it 🙂

I'll add the ThermalRight AX-7 as an option to the Alpha.
This is the best price I have fround for it - still needs the Y.S. Tech fan to reach it's optimun performance of
cooling for noise.
